A police sergeant that leaped to the assistance of a partner that got attacked by a knifeman was granted the Monarch's Honor for Courage.
Sergeant Tim Ansell struggled against twenty-seven-year-old Jacob Brown following he pressed a knife to the throat of his fellow officer Sergeant Marc Foster.
Brown began the violence as the officers and their partner, PC Marcus Wolstencroft, were speaking to a driver subsequent to a vehicle incident in that location in mid-2023.
Brown attacked with blade both Sergeant Ansell and Sergeant Foster before Police Constable Wolstencroft incapacitated him with a Taser.
"Officer stabbed," the officer was heard to say over his radio.
Bodyworn and dashcam video made public by the agency showed Brown, that was clothed in dark clothing with a hood up, rush to Sgt Foster from behind with a blade pointed forward.
He ran into the policeman who tripped and fell to the pavement, before Sergeant Ansell stepped in and struggled to restrain him to the ground even though being continually attacked with the blade.
PC Wolstencroft pulled his stun gun and sought a clear shot, ending the confrontation to an end.
Sergeant Ansell can be heard to say: "I need help on my throat now, I'm bleeding in the throat."
Sergeant Ansell received multiple lacerations to his throat and further wounds to his limbs and body, whereas Sgt Foster suffered knife wounds.
The department stated Sergeant Foster used his bare hands to control his colleague's blood loss prior to paramedics arrived.
The new award comes after the trio of policemen received departmental Valor Recognitions in fall 2023 and the police federation award from the area officer association in spring 2024.
They were also awarded a Regional Valor Recognition in summer 2024.
"The responses of all three officers in the end protected one another and resulted in no civilians experienced any wounds."
Brown received a sentence to an secure medical confinement in April 2024, per officials.
